Bovey Tracey pottery wall pocket, circa 1775, moulded in high relief with an allegorical bust of Ceres holding a scythe, from a series emblematic of the Seasons, within wheat-moulded cartouche, 14.5 cm high For a set of Seasons pockets see Adams and Thomas, 'A Potworks in Devonshire', 1996, p.62. For a flask emblematic of Spring, see The Tom Walford Collection sale, Bonhams, London, 18 December 2012, lot 207. This has been cracked and restored to the front, with some restored replacement to the extremities, evident at the cresting at the front of the pocket and to the leaf ornament at the bottom.
